Friday Night in Minneapolis: Thunderstorm

One thing I miss about living in the Midwest is the summer thunderstorm.  There’s one right now going on outside my hotel window:  hard, heavy rain and wind, thunder and lightning.  The only problem is that I came back to clean up briefly before heading to the Meadville/Lombard alumni/alumnae association dinner, which is at another hotel.   Not looking forward to a soaking before sitting in an air-conditioned banquet hall.  Saturday is the Twin Cities LGBT Pride Festival in Minneapolis, and the General Assembly schedule includes our presence at the rally in Loring Park, about a mile away.  Here’s hoping it does not rain on the parade!

Thunderstorms, Loring Park, U of M: you are making me homesick for my home town. Please make note of the fantastic bike trail (not bike lanes) system where you can go completely cross town (28th st) or from suburbs to downtown on dedicated bike paths. Thanks to forward thinkers who took over abandoned railroad right of ways. Not to mention the scenic paths around the lakes, Mhaha Creek and the Mississippi River. Even more amazing when you think of the narrow window the climate provides for their usage.

I’ve missed the thunderstorms too. Carole and I were sitting by a window while waiting for the Friday night service to commence, and the streets outside were like rivers.
