Newsletter column September 2012

Many people come to a spiritual community because they seek to be known—and to know others—at a deeper, more authentic level.

We seek fellowship for he ups and downs of life.  We hope to share support, gain wisdom, and feel inspired.  This is the work of building the beloved community.

I am grateful to have begun my fifth year of ministry with UUSS in this hope-filled and life-affirming enterprise known as a congregation.  I’m glad you are here too!

As a new church year starts, please choose one or two new ways to get to know others and to make sure we get to know you.  This congregation offers many ways to connect.

Come to services often!  If you already do that, come to choir practice, or sign up to serve coffee or to be a Greeter/Usher once a month.

If you already are doing one of those things, attend an Adult Enrichment class or join a regular Ministry Circle.  Help to host an All-Ages Game Night potluck or just come with your board game and vittles.  Help to cut the grass or water the trees on campus.

If you know plenty of people already, coax a few of them to help you host a Sunday Soup lunch this fall, or join the Memorial Receptions refreshment team.

You can begin your involvement—or reboot a moribund membership—with one pivotal yet simple gesture.  Show up on Sunday, make a name tag for yourself, spot someone you don’t recognize, and reach out your hand.

Blessings,

R

PS—I wouldn’t miss the services on September 23.   If you haven’t yet heard Bud Swank speak here, you are in for a treat!
