Installation Ceremony–Words of the Act of Installation at UUSS — September 29, 2012

President:In our congregational tradition, no right is more precious than the right of choosing and calling our own ministers.  Likewise, ministers have the privilege of choosing freely whether to accept a call when it is extended. Following a thorough process of discernment, and showing our trust in the future, this congregation has voted to call this minister.  Now, if you are a Member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento or a child or youth in our congregation, please rise in body or spirit.  In unison, let us now recite the words of installation.

Congregation Members, Children and Youth:  As Members of this congregation, we hereby install you, Roger Jones, as our Associate Minister.  Be with us—children, youth and adults—in our grief and bewilderment, rejoice with us in time of celebration and accomplishment.  Teach and learn with us.  Listen to us, as we will strive to listen to you.  Speak the truth as you see it.  Preach from your heart.  Lead us in living out our mission with compassion and curiosity.

Associate Minister: With joy, humility, and gratitude for the trust you have placed in me, I accept this ministry to which you have called me.   I pledge to be mindful of both the privileges and responsibilities inherent in this partnership in ministry.  In this covenant, let us continue learning, loving and serving together, guided and held by the Spirit of Life.

President:  Now would Roger’s colleagues in the professions of ministry and religious education please rise as you are able?

Colleagues:   Remember that we are with you, in fellowship and in prayerful companionship, in times of both celebration and hardship.  We offer honest perspectives, experience, curiosity, and an eagerness for greater depth in practice, learning and faith.  We pledge our support to you as we serve the holy cause of wholeness, beauty, justice and joy.

President:  Now would all friends of this congregation, friends of Roger, our staff members and visitors please rise together as you are comfortable for these words.

All Gathered:  We celebrate this calling and this ministry.  For many years to come, may this congregation continue to live out its mission:  To “come together to deepen our lives and be a force for healing in the world.”  Namaste!
